Biography

Daniel Muriungi is an advocate of the high court of Kenya, and the Founding partner of the firm. He is an LLB (Hons) graduate from the University of Nairobi and the Kenya School of Law where he attained a Post Graduate Diploma in Law. He also holds an MSc. in Environmental Planning and Management from Kenyatta University.

He is a qualified Associate of the institute of Chartered Arbitrators and a patent Agent. He is a lawyer of considerable experience in conveyancing and commercial matters. He was previously a senior Associate in that field at Ahmednasir Abdikadir & Company Advocates. He was one of the founding partners of Sheikh & Company Advocates and the Managing partner prior to his exit to incorporate Daniel & Kenneth Advocates where he has served as the Managing Partner until 11th March 2026 when he was appointed to the National Land Commission as a Commissioner.

He has acted for several corporates, banking institutions and individual clients. Some of the corporates he has acted for include National Bank of Kenya, DIB bank, Gulf African Bank, Premier Bank, Credit Bank, Sidian Bank, Kingdom Bank the Local Authorities Pension Fund (LAPFUND) and National Social Security Fund (NSSF). His broad expertise grew from his involvement in the drafting of security documents for Commercial Banks in Kenya and his involvement in setting up the first Sharia Compliant Bank in Kenya (including drafting the security agreements and security documents). Added to that is a deep practical knowledge of commercial and residential real estate development, and preparation and finalization of land related applications to Government.

Daniel’s areas of practice also include Property and Conveyancing Law, Commercial Law, Company law, Procurement and Aviation law. Conveyancing is his strong point, besides his wide experience in Intellectual Property rights protection law and Environmental Law. He is a member of the Law Society of Kenya, the East Africa Law Society, Kenya Industrial Property Institute (as a Patent Agent) and the Institute of Chartered Arbitrators.

Key Highlights & Recent Work

• Aviation Law: Daniel has successfully led the negotiation and closure of high-value aircraft financing and acquisition deals, acting for both local and international aviation operators and financiers. He has published several articles on aviation law and currently sits on the board of a local aviation company in Kenya, further cementing his role as a thought leader in the sector.
• Real Estate & Property Development: He advises top-tier property developers on complex land acquisitions, joint ventures, and project implementation contracts. He is currently the lead adviser to two major pension funds on prime real estate acquisitions and landmark developments totaling over 2,000 housing units in Nairobi and Kisumu.
• Affordable Housing: Daniel serves as legal counsel to the Affordable Housing Board, whose mandate is to deliver accessible, adequate, and affordable housing to Kenyans while spurring socio-economic growth nationwide.
• Kenya Mortgage Refinance Company (KMRC): Daniel leads the Daniel & Kenneth Advocates team that serves as legal advisors under this critical refinancing scheme, facilitating access to long-term, low-interest mortgage financing at single-digit rates thereby enabling broader homeownership in Kenya
• Banking & Islamic Finance: He played a critical role in the establishment of Kenya’s first Sharia-compliant bank, including the drafting of specialized security and financing instruments. His clientele includes institutions such as National Bank of Kenya, DIB Bank, Gulf African Bank, First Community Bank, Credit Bank, Sidian Bank, and Kingdom Bank.
